Beginning on May 1, 2008, Midwest Waste will assume the trash and yard waste contract for the City of Mt. Vernon. We look forward to serving your disposal needs. Our initial goal is to have a problem free transition from the current hauler to Midwest Waste. We hope you find the following information helpful in answering any questions you may have pertaining to trash and yard waste pick up. Customer service hours are 7 a.m. 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please note that Midwest Waste is in the process of securing a location and local number in the Mt. Vernon area. Route days: There will be no change in pick up days for either yard waste or trash. All trash should be curbside or alleyway for pick up beginning at 6:00 a.m.
Holiday schedule: The following holidays will be observed: New Years Day Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Memorial Day (4th Monday in May) Independence Day Labor Day (1st Monday in September) Thanksgiving Day Christmas Day
Trash service will run one day late due to these holidays.
Toter information: each resident will be delivered one 96-gallon tote sometime between April 21 and April 30. Midwest will be utilizing the same automated system as your current hauler. Toters will need to continue being placed at curbside or in alleyways with arrows pointing forward.
After the initial delivery of toters, any customer wanting an additional toter will need to contact Midwest Waste. Additional toters will be provided at a rental cost of $2.50 per month billed annually and will be available beginning June 1, 2008. Call 1-800-634-0215 for additional toter info.
Residential yard waste collection: Yard waste will be collected during the 3rd week of March through the 1st week of December on the same day and in the same manner that it is currently collected.
Bulky waste pick up: Bulky waste, i.e. furniture, mattresses, small appliances or other waste material from a residential source other than construction debris, or construction type material will be picked up at the request of the customer for a fee of $7 per item by calling Midwest Waste customer service at 1-800-634-0215. Midwest Waste will collect the fee and set up the pick up day for your items.
Construction type materials: i.e. roofing material, drywall, siding , room additions or remodeling material. Midwest Waste will offer roll-off containers for these type projects. We offer 10, 20, and 30 cubic yard containers which will be offered to the residents of Mt. Vernon at a special discounted rate.
